Safe shelter, practical support, a path forward
Peak of Hope is a Logan County, Ohio nonprofit running a residential shelter program with practical support for neighbors facing homelessness. We believe a crisis should not become a permanent condition.
Mission
Why we exist
People end up in a shelter crisis for many reasons — a lost job, a health emergency, a rent increase, a relationship that turned unsafe. What they have in common is a sudden gap between where they are and anywhere safe to sleep. Peak of Hope exists to close that gap in Logan County, without judgment.
Peak of Hope is a residential shelter program. Participation in the program is required, and staff work alongside each resident to address the barriers keeping them out of housing.
That means more than opening a door. Staff work alongside each resident on the practical business of getting back to stable housing: recovering documents, applying for income and benefits, and connecting with local partners for healthcare, recovery, and childcare.

How we work
Dignity first
Residents are neighbors, not cases. We ask only what we need to know and we do not publish anyone's story without written permission.
Honest about capacity
When we are full or a program is closed, we say so immediately and help find another option rather than leaving someone waiting.
Locally accountable
Our funding comes from Logan County neighbors, businesses, and congregations, and we report back on how it is used.
A hand up, not a handout
Shelter comes with a plan. Program participation is required, and residents do the work of getting to housing they can keep.
History
Rooted in Logan County
Peak of Hope grew from a single faith-based shelter house into a residential shelter program serving men, women, and families across Logan County.
- 2003
Began at Lewistown-Trinity Methodist Church as the faith-based shelter “The Lighthouse,” located at the lake.
- 2008
Opened the Mad River location, serving men and women.
- 2010
Became the nonprofit now known legally as The Logan County Homeless Shelter.
- 2016
Entered a land contract with Lutheran Services for the North Detroit property, now the men's shelter.
- 2022
Paid off the shelter property in full.
- 2023
Began operating as Peak of Hope and hired its first full-time, onsite case manager.
- 2026
Created a full-time Executive Director role; the position had previously been part-time.
Upcoming milestone
The purchase of a new women's and family shelter is a goal we are working toward. It has not been completed.
