Our conformance target

Peak of Hope Shelter builds and maintains this website with the goal of conforming to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

What we do

• Semantic headings, landmarks, and a “skip to main content” link on every page.
• Full keyboard operability with a two-colour focus indicator visible on light and dark surfaces.
• Text contrast of at least 4.5:1 and touch targets sized for comfortable tapping.
• Program status communicated in words, never by color alone.
• Labeled form fields, text error messages, and respect for reduced-motion preferences.

Accessibility options on this site

The “Accessibility” button in the lower-left corner of every page opens first-party display options: larger text (112% or 125%), a high-contrast theme, emphasized links, and reduced motion. Your choices are saved in your browser only and never change the words on the page. “Reset settings” returns everything to default.

Known limitations

• Some documents uploaded by staff (PDFs) may not yet be fully tagged for screen readers.
• Third-party donation and registration pages are outside our control and may differ in accessibility.
• Photos added by staff depend on staff-provided alt text; we review these regularly.
